We love our closet. When I moved into this home in 2015, putting in the Billy system for closet organization was a top priority. I then used left over shoe cubbies to house purses, clutches and what not and the upper area would be used for jewelry. See below on some before images or check out that blog here.
Since then, we have merged two homes and the closet has become more full. Also, I wanted to get a cleaner look. Things were a little in chaos visually in some corners and with some little tweaks, we can fix that!
You know the saying that a room is never actually done? It’s true. It’s true in a positive and not negative way. Rooms get stale or as life evolves, you need slightly different function for spaces and its a great and fun thing. The same applies to this closet.
Back in March, we took the first steps and added the wall paper and new unit for what we call the accessory corner. The next piece was adding doors to the folding clothes area. The shoes display so nicely but all of the folding just looks messy (again) visually. No matter how perfect the fold, there are different sizes and colors and it just needs doors.
We used the Oxberg doors that fit the Billy system from IKEA. Each door was $30 and comes with all the hardware you need. If you follow on stories you saw that there was a little issue with the final door install in that the holes were off? I thought I was going crazy. After a variety of problem solving and double checking of things, it was decided that new holes needed to be drilled to fit the door so it aligned appropriately. After that fix it was smooth sailing!
Check out the updates in our closet!
How much cleaner and more amazing does that look! I also love the magnetic door closures (you can see in above images) help keep the doors fully closed and again, clean.
This is just a reminder that all good things take time and continued shifting and pivoting in plans. The first image was from over five years ago. It has taken time and every step I have been THRILLED with the results! Never in those first pages was I unsettled about the result. I LOVED IT.
