2021 Outdoor Patio

April 13, 2021

It’s finally patio season in Indiana 🙌🏽

The day I put away the outdoor furniture in the fall, I start my longing for the day it can go back out. Pretty much, my favorite past time is sitting outside. However, we made it. No snow in the forecasts and the weather is looking up!

At the start to every season, I bring out one of the best ‘tools’ I have purchased, my power washer. I like to start each season fresh from the left over yuck of the season before. This power washer is perfect for my needs at home. I use it on the exterior of our house, outdoor furniture, patio/pavement and even indoor rugs as needed.

PowerWasher
Before & After

Because we do this annually, the time it requires is less and less. Quick and easy so we can get our furniture out and ready to use. Simple clean and ready to go. After everything is power washed and dried out, the pretty stuff can come out!

We continue to use and love our Hampton Bay set (couch & chairs), but from years prior, we updated the covers for a fresh look from the five year wear and sun bleaching of the other set. Swapping out the couch covers is still in no way ‘cheap’ but compared to fully replacing your furniture set, I’d say its a great option. It can give you a fresh look or a whole new look if you so desire. This is a great way to start a season after seasons of wear.

We also changed out the rug from last season as it got pretty beat up. We opted for a more durable outdoor rug that we had in storage. I think the ends have pretty well flattened out, but if needed, we have used outdoor tape in the past to keep things down and tight.

We continue to use our Amazon umbrella. Our home faces east and gets a full dose of morning sun, so coverage is necessary at times. I’ve had the striped option, but the white withstands the bleaching without looking old and ragged.

One of the little details of the patio space that I love are the little side tables. I found mine at my local HomeGoods, but Amazon also has these available. The top or lid of the tables comes off and the middle is hollow. We added a brick to the bottom for extra weight to make sure they don’t take off in the wind, but it’s also perfect for dog toys and golf balls (we occasionally hit them into the pond behind our home) to be available and you don’t have to look at it.

And finally, fresh cut flowers… if you missed it, we talked about utilizing your own backyard for the use of florals inside and outside your home. This is a great way to add extra pretty to your space for zero cost. I swoon for these details!

Welcome to our back patio and our little summer oasis!

We are already soaking up evenings on the patio and CANNOT WAIT for the real outdoor season to be here.

This last year for Christmas, we were gifted new covers (couch & chairs) for our outdoor cushions in the color pewter. What we had was terribly faded and the couch didn’t match the chairs which I didn’t love. I got the set off Craig’s list in 2015, so it did it’s job, but now for coordination (FINALLY). Because the covers are fresh and not bleached from the sun, we wanted to keep them that way. I had never spent the money on a cover for the furniture, but this is the year. The covers that fit the furniture are bulky and super pricey! One of my favorite accounts, Young House Love, suggested these canopies as covers instead.

Bungie cords run from front to back of the couch to hook the ends and keep the canopy tied down

This is GENIUS! Super effective, lower price point and easy to assemble and store. We are glad we have a solution to protect our cushions heading into patio season that’s not a massive inconvenience. The cover can even fit in our end tables and the bungie cords stay attached to the couch.

It’s now safe to say that we are ready for patio season 🙌🏽

Outdoor spaces are something we put a big value on. A few things we are considering heading into the summer are twinkle lights and an extension of our patio for a more permanent fire pit specific area. We used our fire pit sooooo much late summer and fall but has some challenges, so we will see what we might come up with to add the extra ambiance to a space we already love so much.
