How I’m Decorating for Christmas

November 17, 2019

With Thanksgiving right around the corner and Thanksgiving being a bit later this year, I have the itch to get the house festive. The problem with most things is finding the time to do it all. You better bet I’ll find the time to make it pretty! I have slowly been adding pieces to my Christmas collection. I believe the best things don’t happen all at once but over time. My advice on many things but especially décor is to take your time and find the pieces you love rather than a quick buy to fill the walls. When I first moved into my home I had stockings. The first Christmas I purchased my artificial Christmas tree and some ribbon (didn’t even get ornaments, see image below). It has slowly evolved. It makes me happy without breaking the budget.

This year, I have added two items to my collection. Some mini Christmas trees from IKEA and a new front door mat from Target (I like to layer mine with this buffalo check and this woven mat for extra character)! I think that’s what I will keep it to. Less than $20 and fun little additions!

When it comes to decorating for the holidays I think the first purchase should be wreaths and greenery. This can make such an impact on such a small budget. I think all of mine came from Michaels and taking advantage of the coupons. I’m a simple and classic girl as you know and this fits all the things so perfectly!

Next, I always take a look to see what I have for normal life and repurpose. I don’t want a house full of stuff that has a single purpose. For example, I use my cake stands to help add height for a pretty and simple center piece on my formal dining table.

And when it comes to implementation, command hooks are a girls best friend. These help hold things all over the house without a permanent fixture. Another trick is to use fishing line to hang wreaths in your window. It’s less hassle and a cheap solution.

Here are a few of my favorite holiday décor items! Happy decorating and enjoy the season of beauty (even if its freezing cold and you’re wearing five billion layers!)
