While my home was being built, I started the search for items to help build that home. I had moved from Tampa to Indianapolis and had a storage unit that held all of my things while I took into my old room at my parents house as my home was built. At that time when it came to furniture, I owned a bed, bed frame, dresser I had refinished a couch that did not fit my taste and a dining room table. That was all I owned. Living at my parents gave me the opportunity to save and then to use that cash to find deals on the items I was going to be missing.
Have you ever bought something on CraigsList!? I have had some pretty great experiences actually. And when it came to my outdoor furniture, I hit the jackpot! I was able to find a couch and two chairs still in the box from Home Depot for $400. Boom Baby!!! Everything was still wrapped in plastic, just the couch cushions were missing their slip covers. This fit the budget had is used all spring, summer and fall at my humble abode!
I have slowly been adding items to my back patio spaces. While I have dreams of a more grand outdoor space, baby steps is what it takes as we all know. Outside of the Couch and two Chairs, I have added sweet little end tables and was gifted my favorite striped umbrella. I once had a firepit but it unfortunately rusted through and a true in-ground firepit is part of the long term plan.
In efforts to make this space more inviting and the home feel, I have started to evaluate the space and see what changes would have that maximum impact. Number one, I want matching cushions. I have been debating keeping the tan look on the chairs but a pop of color keeps sneaking in my mind, its outdoor and fun after all! With matching cushions, adding a large outdoor rug to tie it all together I think will make maximum impact! I have a circular rug that could be a fun layer, but is much too small as a stand alone. Then to add a center table to bring it all full circle I think is the icing on the cake.
As the summer truly begins, adding greenery and those elements that truly add the warm fuzzies to the feel will be a part of the process, but I think these changes will make a world of difference! Everything doesn’t have to be a total redo and as my friends over at Chris Loves Julia encourage, enjoy your space now, don’t wait. Enjoy it as it slowly transforms into the space you love and love it every step of the way!
