The spare bathroom in my home has never gotten the attention it needs. It got a rug, a curtain rod and a towel ring. That’s as far as it has gone. While it doesn’t get used too terribly often, it’s just not a pretty space if I am honest.
I feel like is most areas of my home you can find a piece of beauty in each room not matter the budget or updated put into the space, but this Jack and Jill bathroom just doesn’t. It’s frumpy and has no style and not a space I am proud of. I am working to make that feeling better.
I recently swapped a new circular mirror from Target into the space. It has the natural wood border that softens things up. Getting rid of the builder grade mirror was step one. Step two and three are new paint and a new light.
When we talk walls, I feel like there are a couple of ways we can go about this. We can bring in a color – the space is small and the white just doesn’t work – or we can go more dramatic and bring in some wall paper/wall decal. The peal and stick wall paper has become very popular and Society6 have some amazing choices. So we can do paint or a decal. Paint is easy, but the decal is trying something new and adds elements that paint could never touch.
The hex look ties into other elements of the house and the blue from the master that is just at the other end of the hallway. The floral is deep and dramatic and plays off the office pieces that is just on the other side of the door. What’s a girl to do!?
When it comes to lights, I am looking to put a light on either side of the circular mirror. Right now I am loving these from west elm and add tie in the metal from around the mirror and bring gold (in the light fixture in the adjacent room (office)) metals with a a little different feel.
Working through the details and what could be a reality while I find the final pieces of inspiration. Any thoughts!? What inspires you when updating the design of a space!? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
