I love having plants in the home. If I were to write the rules of home decor, having plants and greenery would be at the top of the list. Plants make a home feel like a welcoming space where people actually dwell.
The big question then is where? Where do you get these plants? Locally I love to visit my local grocery store (yes, they have some of the best), local nurseries (Frazee Gardens is my favorite on the west side of Indianapolis), and online.
Yes, I said online.
I recently had a beloved banana tree in my front entry way that was thriving. At the change of the season it started to struggle. I don’t know if it was a watering issue, change in seasonal daylight, cooler temperatures or just the plant itself. Stretching nine feet (yes, it was amazing) tall, it provided a grand statement here in my home. I trimmed a dead leaf off and then proceeded to peel of some pieces by the base of the tree, the next morning it was literally bent over, in half, laying across my entry way. I think I could have cried.
It was December in Indiana and Banana Trees were no where in site. No fear – Amazon to the rescue!!
We now have amazing greenhouses at our finger tips. I wanted to get that growing started for a new statement tree but would never find a banana tree locally in the winter months and many not even find one once summer hit.
The plant was delivered in appropriate packaging and wrapped ever so delicately in wet newspaper to ensure it did not dry out. The plant even came with directions!! I have been so impressed and even have a new leaf that sprouted in just the first week or two of having the plant.
Don’t let season or where you live limit what you can find for your home. Plants go a long way in making a house a home.
